Family words in Swedish
Swedish family words are delightfully logical. Grandparents and aunts and uncles are named by which side of the family they are on: mor (mother) and far (father) are glued together. Your mother's mother is mormor, your father's mother is farmor, your mother's brother is morbror and your father's sister is faster.
Watch the plurals: they are among the most irregular nouns in the language. En bror, två bröder; en dotter, två döttrar; en mor, två mödrar. Syskon (siblings) has no exact English word, and sambo (live-in partner) is so common it has its own legal status.

Questions
What is the difference between mormor and farmor?
Mormor is your mother's mother and farmor is your father's mother. In the same way, morfar is your mother's father and farfar your father's father.
What does syskon mean?
Brothers and sisters together, siblings. Har du syskon? means "do you have any siblings?".
